August Ames
August Ames in Safe Landings
A feature role offered space for a sustained dramatic performance.
The audition
Ames and Xander Corvus secured the leading roles after auditions at the Free Speech Coalition offices in Canoga Park. Director Kay Brandt announced the casting in June 2015. She praised Ames’s screen presence and her willingness to engage with the darker emotional material in the dialogue.
Adapting the novel
Brandt adapted the film from her own romance novel. Its central relationship connects a flight attendant and a younger woman who survived the same plane crash. Their emotional dependence becomes increasingly complicated. This is the film’s fictional premise, separate from the performers’ personal histories.
The ensemble
Brenda James, Marcus London, Ryan McLane and Alison Rey joined Ames and Corvus in the announced cast. Adam & Eve produced the film. The production was planned as the beginning of a line based on romance novels, with the film’s performers also appearing in artwork for the book.
