August Ames: learning to work on camera

Her early interviews describe the practical demands of working in front of a camera.

Learning the camera’s position

Ames told AVN that she had not understood the different parts of a production before starting. She learned about camera angles and the distinction between still photographs and filmed scenes. The April 2014 interview records this learning process only a few months after her November debut.

Photography and concentration

In Barelist’s early interview, she said she preferred photographic sessions because she could concentrate on them. She also enjoyed acting in features. Those preferences describe different parts of the job: posing for a still image and sustaining a role through a scripted scene.

Following dramatic direction

Ames recalled a scene directed by Mason with Danny Mountain. The director wanted an emotional performance, and Ames described becoming tearful during the work. She remembered both performers needing a pause. Her account concerned the experience of acting a scene, rather than a claim that the fictional story was her biography.
